When Is the Best Time to Visit Tuscany?
A season-by-season guide to Tuscany for villa travelers: weather, crowds, harvests, events and what each time of year is best for.
5 min read
There's no bad time to be in Tuscany, but each season offers a different trip, and villa availability changes through the year.
Spring: April and May
The hills are green, wildflowers are out and temperatures are comfortable for walking and cycling. It's a lovely time for sightseeing in Florence and Siena before the summer crowds. Pools may be cool, so a heated pool is worth asking about.
Early summer: June
For many people, the best month. Long days, warm evenings and pools warm enough to swim. Popular for weddings and celebrations.
High summer: July and August
Hot, lively and the peak of the family season. Days revolve around the pool, with sightseeing early and dinners late. The Palio di Siena takes place on July 2 and August 16. Book early: the best large villas go first.
Harvest: September and October
The grape harvest, warm days and cooler nights. Wonderful for food and wine lovers, with festivals in many towns.
Late autumn and winter
Olive oil pressing in November, truffles, quiet towns and log fires. Fewer villas are available, and pools are usually closed, but it can be a very atmospheric time.
