For most villa trips, the pool is the center of the day. It's where the morning coffee ends up, where the children spend the afternoon and where everyone gathers before dinner.
Most villas in the Mediterranean have one. The differences are in the details: size, depth, sun through the afternoon, whether it's heated, how private it really is, and what the view looks like from the water. Those are the things we look at when we search for you.

Before you choose
What to consider

Size and shape
A 10 x 4 meter pool feels generous for a couple and crowded for fourteen. For larger groups we look for longer pools, wide terraces and enough loungers and shade for everyone at once.

Heating and season
In May, early June and October, an unheated pool can be cold. Heating is often available for an extra charge, and not every villa offers it. If you're traveling outside high summer, tell us, and we'll check.

Safety for young children
Pool fences and alarms are not standard across Europe. Some villas have them, some can install a temporary fence, and some can't. If you have toddlers, we'll ask before we recommend anything.

Privacy
A pool overlooked by a neighboring house or a public path changes the feel of a stay. We ask about sight lines and whether the villa shares grounds or facilities with other guests.

Sun and shade
A pool that sits in shade by 3pm is disappointing. So is a terrace with no shade at all. We look at orientation, pergolas, umbrellas and trees around the water.

Are villa pools usually heated?
Not by default. Many villas can heat their pool on request, usually for an additional charge, and a few heat it as standard. Heating matters most in spring and autumn. We'll confirm the arrangement for each villa we suggest.
Can you find a villa with a fenced pool for young children?
Often, yes. Fencing isn't standard in European villas, so we look specifically for properties with permanent fences or the ability to install a temporary one, and we'll tell you clearly which is which.
Are pools shared with other guests?
The villas we look for have private pools for your group only. If a property has any shared facility, we'll tell you before you decide.
