The Best Greek Islands for Villa Holidays

Greece has thousands of islands, and they vary more than people expect. Some are dry and windswept, some green and gentle. Some are glamorous, others barely changed in decades. Here are the ones we'd consider first for a villa stay.

Mykonos

Mykonos has one of the strongest villa markets in Greece, with contemporary villas, infinity pools and widely available staff. It suits groups, celebrations and couples who want style, though it's also quieter than its reputation in June and September.

Santorini

Santorini is about the caldera. Villas on the rim are typically intimate, with plunge pools and dramatic views. For more space, look inland. Best for couples, honeymoons and small groups.

Crete

Crete is big, varied and generous with space. Villas often have large pools and gardens, and the season runs long. Excellent for families and larger groups who like to explore.

Corfu

Corfu is green, calm and easy. The northeast coast is a long-standing villa favorite, with tavernas by the water and small boats to rent. Ideal for families.

Paros and Antiparos

Relaxed Cycladic islands with pretty villages and good beaches. A quieter alternative to Mykonos with a growing choice of beautiful villas.

A note on wind

In July and August, the meltemi blows through the Cyclades. It keeps temperatures pleasant but can make exposed terraces and north-facing beaches uncomfortable. Location on the island matters.

Ferries make it easy to split a trip between two islands, for example a week in a Paros villa and a few nights in Santorini.
